The Trump Administration Says Poverty Is Over. They’re Lying

Poverty has always been a dominant factor in most societies, both economically and politically. Most countries have improved helping people in need, so they overcome the poverty line. Recent studies show that countries that help out with jobs to the unemployed have a higher poverty line than the rest. Therefore, the US has done a great job helping out the less fortunate. But all of this may be about to change in our post-industrial era. In her article, "The Trump Administration Says Poverty Is Over. They're Lying" from The Huffington Post, Bryce Covert argues that poverty in the US is a real, complex phenomenon that has reached unacceptable levels.

Covert discusses the issue of poverty in the US concerning the subject of the policy on the poverty of the Trump administration. The Trump administration argues that unemployment is not an issue in the US and that additional labor conditions should be placed to motivate people to work on welfare (ll. 4-10).

Bryce Covert continues her article by addressing the poverty policy of the Trump administration. She stated: "The Trump Administration wants you to believe that poverty in the United States doesn't exist" (l. 1) By quoting US Ambassador at the UN, Nikki Haley, and by referencing the document from the Economic Advisers Council (CEA), the administration supports this claim. Both the declaration by the Ambassador and the document indicate that the administration does not accept the issue of poverty in the US and is "declaring victory in the war on poverty that started half a century ago" (ll. 7-8), which includes the change of the government in a broader political and social sense.
