George Bleacher's article “More Than Coffee: New York’s Vanishing Diner Culture” was published in The New York Times in 2016. Bleacher presents diners as his third most important place after his home and workplace, he calls it his “third place”. He states that diners are closing due to newer and more modern coffee places, like Starbucks, the substantial increase in rent, and changes in peoples eating habits. Bleacher subsequently explains that diners are a place where networks are made, and they are especially good for the elderly and the poor. Bleacher explains that especially the immigrants have huge importance for diners because many owners and employees have different backgrounds.
