A Gothic Tale: The Mad Scientist of Pittenweem

This happened many years ago. It was a storm full night with the wind howling and loud lightning. It was raining and at the old castle on the hill. This day there are only a few ruins left of the castle. It was my grandpa who had experienced this. He told me the story to me often when he was alive. I felt I had to write it down, so my next generations could read it. It is a bit of a scary story though, so if you’re faint-hearted, you should maybe just read a comic book. Well, back to the story. It was a storm full night with the wind howling and loud lightning. It was raining and at the old castle on the hill. No one had lived in the castle for 100 years. The inhabitants of a small town called Pittenweem, were afraid of the castle because they thought ghosts lived there. But that wasn’t the case. Only a few days before a well-known scientist had moved into the castle. He hadn’t told anyone yet, so no one knew he lived there. But that was what he wanted. He wanted privacy too to experiment with his invention. I don’t quite think it was a legal invention, although he still did it. Unfortunately, he wasn’t known for good reasons. Down in the town the people were preparing for the yearly castle carnival. They were happy and the atmosphere was buzzing. Same at the mad scientist’s lab. He was trying to come up with a solution to get someone to love him before the carnival started. the days were moving quickly, and the mad scientist stole a needed a test person before he did this to his true love. So, what he did was terrible. When the sun went down, he went to Pittenweem and kidnapped a woman. The mad scientist brought her to the castle, and nobody could hear her because her mouth was taped. To this day she is still missing. Everything went as planned. The formula worked and the scientist was happy. He needed it because no one liked him. He was ugly looking and had bad behavior. The carnival came and his invention didn’t work. He kept trying the coming years, but he never succeeded. But many women more disappeared from Pittenweem, and nobody ever heard from them again.
