I’m horrible at math but this technical term I live for. While watching the season finale of Teen Wolf, Deaton, (a mentor) explains to a very sorrowful Scott (The main character), about how the death of his beloved will come to pass. He explains the very first time both Scott and I have ever heard of the term, “regression to the mean.” Here’s the technical definition: “in statistics, regression toward (or to) the mean is the phenomenon that if a variable is extreme on its first measurement, it will tend to be closer to the average on its second measurement—and, paradoxically, if the extreme on its second measurement, it will tend to have been closer to the average on its first.” Or, more colloquially, “things even out and will return to a more neutral place.”
This was an eye opener for me, it helped me fighting through tough times, because as I thought everything is bad and it’s going to stay like that, I knew no matter how bad things get, or how good they will always go back to the middle, so it also helped me enjoy the presence when I felt like everything was good.
