At dinnertime Charlie had not returned home, so his parents were getting worried. They went down to the beach to look for him. There were almost no people on the beach. They could see a boy lying in the sand further down the beach. They thought it might be Charlie so they hurried. As they got closer, they could see it was Charlie. He was pretty far out and it was hard for him to focus. The parents asked Charlie seriously what had happened, but Charlie just mumbled something about a dragon. They took Charlie back to the summer cottage and there they called the doctor. As time went on, more and more, Charlie returned to consciousness. He told everything that had happened and started talking. He said he had been with Puff The Magic Dragon and together they had been to a land called Honahlee. And there they frolicked in the autumn mist. He also said they had traveled in a boat with billowed sail and that noble kings and princes bowed as they came. Charlie's parents were concerned about the things that Charlie just told. They went to the doctor and the doctor took some blood samples from Charlie. They found out that Charlie had been drugged, and that it was hallucinations he was talking about, but it would take a few hours before the drugs were out of charlis system. Charlie asked if he could ever visit Puff again, but the answer was no. Charlie started crying and said that Puff couldn't be brave anymore, and now he just sadly slipped into his cave. Charlie and his parents went back home to the summer cottage and got something to eat. The next morning as they got breakfast, the parents asked if he could remember how he might have gotten the drugs. Charlie said he had been offered some candy from some older boys, and that it looked very delicious so he thanked yes. His parents got a little angry, but mostly at the boys who gave him that. And from that day, Puff lived alone in his cave by the sea in the land called Honahlee and Charlie never took candy from older boys again. Liv Christensen
