I’ve always been really fascinated by horseback riding, especially the bond between the rider and the horse. I think it’s amazing how you can connect and work with such a huge and strong animal. I just never had the guts to try it before. My dad always told me that I would get hurt if I began riding horses. He has always been the overprotective kind of parent, but recently I convinced him into letting me participate in a TeenTogether event.
I chose the event because I heard about it from my friend who recommended it. It was held in England, and when I arrived, I felt a little nervous. There was more than 30 people at the event and I didn’t really know where to go. After a short time one of the hosts came over to me and welcomed me. Then she showed me where I was going to sleep for the next two days.
I met so many people in just two days and it almost felt surreal. I really felt like I was in one of those horse camp movies, but without the “mean girls” part. It was incredible how close everyone at the event became in just two days. I also got super close with a girl named Lea, who came from Ireland. She taught me almost everything I know about horses now. She taught me how to curry a horse properly, how to saddle a horse, how to mount a horse and so much more. I really learned how hard it is having your own horse.
