Discuss the meaning of Body Shop’s catchphrase “Enrich not Exploit” (p. 2 line 40) and the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) for a company’s image, sales and marketing. You may also include examples of other companies and their CSR activities:
40 years ago making a company that not only made money, but also was a force for good seemed completely ridiculous. That is now considered mainstream, and a lot of companies are corporating what is called Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR). CSR is a concept where companies voluntarily takes an interest in social- and environmental issues in their business.
One of the first companies to introduce CSR, was The Body Shop, who still are striving to corporate social resonsibilty in the best way possible. The Body Shop has also made a new catchphrase: “Enrich not Exploit”. I believe that The Bo
dy Shop’s new catchphrase means that we should not take advantage of our planet or people in a negative way, but instead enrich it in the best way as possible, by for instance minimizing the use of plastic, by using more natural ingredients, treating employees fairly and ethically, recycling materials and so on. A lot of companies are causing detrimental effects to the environment, simply because they want to make a greater profit, so I think it is very great that The Body Shop still are striving to maintain their values about enriching our planet instead of exploiting it.
