The narrating main character seems to be a typical teenager, he works out, he hangs out with his friends, they smoke cigarettes and talk about girls. He likes a girl, Sarah Jane, who might have been doing it for the first time with an older boy called Terry. This annoys the main character: “And how (…) I got a car myself” (ll. 38-39), because he believes that the first time means the most. He is probably also a bully or a troublemaker: “Baz knew us and (…) all right, Mr Erfat?” (ll.138-139). The Youth Club worker, who knows the boys, figures that they are the reason for the trouble, even though, in this particular case, they’re not.
