Video games, collectibles, and even an anime, the Pokémon franchise is spread out everywhere today, starting in Japan in the late 90s and a couple of years later in the US. But why? Why did the Pokémon franchise get so incredibly popular all over the world in just a couple of years? The first Pokémon games were introduced in 1996 in Japan and were originally produced for their handheld gaming device, the Game Boy. Along with the first game followed the first region of the Pokémon world, the so-called Kanto Region, and then again with that, the original 151 pokémons. On the outside of the box on the original games, you could find the phrase “Gotta catch ‘em all!” that phrase is one of the reasons why a lot of people think that the original games became so popular so fast - everybody wanted to “catch ‘em all”
