In this assignment there is 3 texts and they are all articles. There are different meanings about the Pokémon concept, which we also can see in the 3 texts. The overall Theme is “Pokemon Go”, but what is Pokémon go and why is it so popular?
The Pokémon Go is a reality game which can be played through a mobile phone app. The app overlays monsters over different real-world locations using the phone’s camera. The players have to find, capture, fight, and train these virtual monsters which are called Pokémon’s. The concept is more careful explained in both Texts 1 and 2.
Text 1 is an article from The Atlantic written by David Sims in 2016, in which the author presents how the Pokémon game evolved into Pokémon Go and the differences and similarities between them. David Sims’s attitude is praise towards the original Pokémon game, but critical towards the Pokémon Go version. He is comparing the original Pokémon game and the Pokémon go version to each other. He is pointing what made the original Pokémon version popular and afterwards writing that the Pokémon Go concept has stripped is away. “But the journey included multiple encounters with black-clad monster slavers, communing with the spirit of a dead Pokémon to grant her soul rest, and other moral twists that were strange considering the game’s overall concept.” (pp.1-2 ll.45-52). Here we can see that the writer is pointing the moral twist as a special thing for the game. “With Pokémon Go, all this subtext is stripped away” (p.2 ll.55-56). Here we can see the writer criticise the Pokémon Go concept.
