I chose this topic because I think it’s a very interesting topic and exciting to learn more about this harsh punishment of theirs especially because in the real world this would never be approved, because it would probably be looked as too harsh of a punishment, and some may even think it’s inhumane.

What is shunning? Shunning is the Amish way of punishing when a person does something wrong. It often happens when a person violated the Ordnung which is an unwritten set of rules that Amish people live by every day. Unlike many other punishments in the modern and older societies, shunning is more psychological and can be very harsh, it happens by every member of a church must ignore and isolate the shunned person and they can’t have any contact with the shunned person nor buy anything or sell anything to them. And if someone does not want to participate in the shunning, they can end up being the one getting shunned.
