Opgaven giver en god beskrivelse af Amish-livsstilen og rumspringa. Den mangler dog kilder og dybere analyse, hvilket gør den borderline for publikation.

My topic is Amish, and I choose it because they have another way of life, and I find that very interesting, and I think that we could learn something from them.

Jacob Amman broke away from the traditional church in 1693. Those who followed him are also known as the Amish. Today the Amish can be found in 22 us states and in Canada.

The Amish have a very strict religious lifestyle. They believe that they need to live away from the non-believers in order to attain eternal life. The most important part of the Amish life is to have a family, a home and a strong community. Most of the Amish are famers and craftsmen. They only farm to provide food for their family.

An Amish wedding is a secret until it’s announced about two weeks before it actually happens. All of the family members and friends are invited to the festivities. After the ceremony the feasting begins, it’s the mother that stands for making the food, but some of the guests comes and helps here with the cooking, a week before the wedding begins.

There’s a tradition called ‘’going to the table’’. The young women between 16 and 30, goes upstairs in to a bedroom, and the young men goes in to the barn. Then it’s the new married couple that have to convince the men to go in to the home and upstairs where the girls are waiting. Then they have to ask the girls if they wants to ‘’go to the table’’ with them. They are allowed to hold hands as they come down the stairs.
