When I started my month at camp lakeside, I didn’t know what to expect. How would I give the children memorable experiences? How could I contribute? As it turned out, I leaned so much from interacting with children from different cultures. Let me tell you about some of my experiences.
At camp, I had to be able to communicate with kids, co-workers and parents, no matter what time the day. Being pushed out of the comfort zone. you’ll be surprised how much confidence camp will give you.
The work consisted of all simplicity in making sure that the children had a summer they will never forget. We lived together, ate together, and did activities with the kids. It felt like having 30 extra little siblings that you could do nothing but care about. I'm still a toddler, which is why I enjoyed playing with the kids! Sometimes I got a bit less sleep because we planned a great activity for the kids on weekends and it was worth it when you saw the children's reaction to the trips.
I have visited an old cave where and bathed in a beautiful lake, been on a survival trip on the nearby mountain, stood on waterski, rivered in a rubber ring, and seen waterfalls and other beautiful natural areas. My personal favorite activity was river rafting, I thought that was the coolest. The best thing about all these experiences was that I shared them with the kids and my new friends from all over the world.
