In the article “A Diplomatic Boycott” written December 8. 2021 by Kurt Streeter, are we faced with a diplomatic problem; China has been chosen as the host of the 2022 Winter Olympics. This has created a lot of debate, on the lack of human rights. Due to China’s growing list of human rights atrocities, has the Biden administration has announced a political boycott. But a political boycott isn’t influential enough. Many athletes declined or only wanted to speak about China off the record, due to the country’s history of quashing critics. With all the big companies that are sponsors, none of them are doing anything to speak for human rights in China. Instead, the companies, are putting profit over morality since the Olympic Games is such a great marketing tool.
