”A place in the sun” by Joanne Harris starts with a statement about the “rich” beaches in Brazil.

The protagonist then continues to say that her dream is to have a spot at the Platinum Sands, which is an exclusive beach In Brazil. She can only go to the beach called Silver Sands, which is a lower-class beach. The problem for her is that the beach is very close to another beach called All public beach, and everyone can go that that beach, so it is not very exclusive. She has a friend called Tanya, who has had many plastics surgeries. So she looks very good and because of that se is close to getting access to the Silver beach, Which was an very exclusive beach, but the protagonist doesn’t know if she will get in, because it is very hard. She would like to help her friend, but she doesn’t know if it will be a good idea. She also has to focus on herself, because she is also getting treatments to look better, and she is also working out a lot, so she can pass the loveliness check. She also has another friend called Lucida, who has access to the Gold Beach, Which Is better than the Silver Beach. They were good friends before she got access to the gold beach, but after her friend got access to the Gold Beach, they don’t talk much anymore. The Protagonist is a bit annoyed at Lucida because she just cut her off. But she truly believes in herself that she can get into the Golden Beach, if she keeps working out and then maybe get some plastic surgeries. But the problem is that her mother is very against it, because she thinks that she is too young to any plastic surgeries. But the protagonist can only see a future where she is a Platinum girl because she wants to look like a perfect girl, and she thinks that if you are an Platinum girl you will have an perfect live. She also wants to be with a man from the Platinum Sands, because she feels like they are beautiful and perfect for her. She has a plan to be like her friends and keep working out, so she can gain access to the beaches. She has already got a new nose for herself, and she is currently on the waiting list for new breast. She is turning 13 years old next year, and she thinks it will be a shame if she will get to old, before she get the surgeries.
