The Next President of the United States: First Female President Ever or a Comeback for Donald Trump?
Ladies and gentlemen, fellow Social Science students, thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak to you today about one of the most important political moments in modern history, the 2024 U.S. presidential election. As an American exchange student, I have been closely following this race, and today I want to provide you with a brief account of the two main candidates: Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, and Donald Trump, the Republican nominee. We are at a crossroads—America will either elect its first female president, or we will witness the comeback of a former president, one with a deeply polarizing legacy.
I’d like to start off by talking a little bit about the first candidate, Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris represents not only a historical milestone as the first woman of color to run for president but also a sharp contrast to Donald Trump. Her candidacy brings an important narrative of resilience and diversity to the forefront of the election. Barbara Perry, a prominent presidential historian, argues that Harris is uniquely equipped to challenge Trump and that she is, in fact, the “perfect candidate” for this role.
