On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 Japanese time, during the World War II, a B-29 bomber plane dropped the worlds very first atomic bomb in Hiroshima. The explosion immediately killed about 140.000 people.

Three days later, the 9. August, after the first bomb in Hiroshima, the Americans dropped another atomic bomb over Nagasaki. The explosion caused about 74.000 deaths. And then 6 days after the Japanese emperor announced on a radio, that his country’s unconditional surrender in World War II. on August 15. Thousands of people also died after the explosion, because of the radiation exposure over the weeks, months and years after that followed.

That was the first and last time that the atomic bombs ever got to explode. But Benoît Pelopidas says that it may not be the last time that an atomic bomb was going to explode. The United States, the Soviet Union/Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, Israel, India, Pakistan, and North Korea all have armed themselves with nuclear weapons, that have much more destructive power compared to the two that exploded in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The bomb that got dropped in Hiroshima was known as “Little Boy”, contained between 12.000 and 15.000 tons on TNT and destroyed and area of 13sq km.
