Child labour is work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity which is harmful to physical and mental development. Whether or not particular forms of “work” can be called child labour depends on the child’s age, the type and hours of work performed, the conditions under which is performed. Where I come from (Kenya), children living in the poorest households and in rural areas are most likely to be overwhelmingly burdened with household, mostly are girls who work as a domestic savants and are especially vulnerable to exploitation and sexual abuse.
The darkest category of child labour relates to those children caught up in criminal activities such as prostitution, military evolvement or trafficking.
My opinion to child labour is that I think it is so inhuman for those children who have to be enslaved, separated from their families, and exposed to serious hazards left to fend for themselves on the streets of large cities at a very early age.
Even though I am really against child labour, because often it interferes with children’s education, it doesn’t mean that all labour should be classified as child labour. Activities such as helping parents around the house, earning pocket money outside school hours and holidays contribute to children’s development and to the welfare of their families. They provide them with skills and experience that help them to prepare their children to be productive members of society during their adult life.
