Anna Hope is an English writer and actress from Manchester, United Kingdom. She is perhaps best known for her Doctor Who role of Novice Hame, who first appeared in the webcast TARDISODE 1 - "New Earth" before appearing in the television episodes "New Earth" and "Gridlock". She was educated at Wadham College, Oxford, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London, and Birkbeck College, London. Her first novel "Wake" is due to be published in January 2014 by Doubleday UK and Random House USA.
The short story “A Gab of Sky” is written by Anna Hope and it was published in 2008. It takes place in different parts of London. It is a third-person omniscient narrator and it is told through a stream of consciousness, which apparently shows that the girl, Ellie, might be intoxicated by drugs. The short story starts in medias res, which means that the reader is thrown directly into the text without being introduced to any place, time, environment or setting.
The story might take place nowadays, because printers are relatively new technology. The text is not in an imaginary world. It happens even today. We are only told about Ellie and her mother. The story takes place at daytime and the entire course takes place during 24 hours. It probably takes place in the winter from what we are told (pp. 2, ll. 41: “The air is cold, makes her gasp, cold and hurting on her ragged lungs).
