The speaker of the speech is Patrick Henry. He was born in 1736 in Hanover County, Virginia as a Scottish-born planter. Patrick was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and the first governor of Virginia. As a lawyer and politician, he was known for his persuasive and passionate speeches.
Patrick Henry begins his “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!” speech by announcing that he wishes to present an opposing view to the men that spoke before him, which is not meant to be disrespectful to them. He says he considers it his duty to the fate of his country’s future and to God to give his honest opinion.
