Ordinarily humor is treated in a very unserious manner, but in the article ”The link between happiness and a sense of humor” we explore humor in a very deliberate way. Arthur. C. Brooks is professor of leadership and management at Harvard university and in this article, he dives into what humor truly does to us. Through scientific studies we hear what benefits humor can have if used correctly. He makes it clear that humor is not a wonder drug, as it can also be used to harm others. Last but not least he gives some advice on how you should use humor, and how you can get the greatest benefits from humor.

Analytical essay

Humor can be quite hard to get a grip of. But clearly Arthur. C. Brooks must have the grip, as he writes this article about it. It is quite suitable that he starts the article of with a joke. This joke engages the reader from the first line, as it anchors his/her attention. Starting an article of with a joke is not something that you see frequently, and it indicates that the author is willing to take chances to achieve an interesting article.

Arthur. C. Brooks has a quite comprehensive insight into humor, as he has clearly done his research about humor. After telling a joke in the beginning he breaks it down by analyzing the different mechanisms that take place in the readers mind when taking in a joke: “I realize that after that analysis you are probably not laughing anymore” (L. 7). By first telling a joke, and then later analyzing what happens to you when hearing the joke, he shows that he understands humor on different levels, both “everyday” humor, and the neurological workings of it.
