I have read your comment on the play, The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh and I must say I agree with you to a certain extend. I write you to discuss my points of view on the subject freedom of speech, and hope you will take them into consideration while you seek your mind for a right answer. I am one of those people, who think that the restriction on freedom of speech that prohibits the yelling of FIRE or BOMB in a crowed area is absolutely okay, but I also believe that if you as a second link tell someone to do it you have a responsibility. This is also kind of the situation in the play, The Pillowman where Michel acts out some of the stories that Katurian has written, except that Katurian never told Michel to do anything. You ask in your comment, “If, when inspired by the writing, someone else recreates the action, what responsibility lies with the writer?”
I don’t think that it is the writers’ responsibility as much as it is the readers. If, when a person inspired by a story chooses to act out the action in it, I believe that it is the readers own responsibility to make the distinction between what is illusion and what is reality.
