Jackson began a solo career in 1971, having had its debut in 1964 as a member of The Jackson 5th His album Thriller in 1982, it is to date best-selling album ever, and four other Off the Wall 1979, Bath 1987, Dangerous 1991 History 1995 and is among the best-selling. He popularized more physically advanced moves like the robot and the moonwalk. He is widely recognized for having changed the music video from a promotional tool to become an art form, while the videos for the songs "Billie Jean" "Beat It" and Thriller made him the first African American to receive a large amount of crossover fans on MTV.
Jackson's private life created a lot of controversy. His changing appearance could be observed from the early 1980s, and especially changes in his nose shape and his skin color made media coverage. In 1993 he was accused of having abused children, even though there appeared some legal charges. He married twice, first in 1994 and again in 1996, and had three children, one of which was born from a surrogate mother. In 2005 he was indicted and acquitted on charges of pedophilia. Jackson died at the age of 50 years 25th June 2009 in Los Angeles, California of a heart attack. His memorial service was broadcast live around the world.
