Mischigan has a big lake called lake Michigan. It’s one of the five great lakes of North America and the only one located entirely within the United States. It’s the second largest of the Great lakes by volume and the third largest by surface area.

Michigan is nicknamed the "Great Lakes State", and also the "Wolverine State", from a nickname earned during the Toledo War ( 1835, a war between Michigan and ohio about which state would control the area known as the toledo strip)

The Great Lakes account for one-fifth of the world's surface freshwater supply.

In 1862 the current Michigan State University became the first land grant college in the United States.

The first people in the nation to receive assigned phone numbers lived in Detroit in 1879.

There are two theories where the name Michigan is derived from. The first says that it is derived from the Indian word 'Mishigamaa', which means 'Big Lake'. Or it's from the Indian Word 'Míshikehn' or 'Mákinaak' which both means 'the Big Turtle'.

Detroit is known as the car capital of the world.

Elsie is the home of the world's largest registered Holstein dairy herd.
