Brooklyn Bridge: fakta, historie og design

The Brooklyn Bridge is a suspension bridge in New York City and is one of the oldest bridges of either type in the United States. The construction was finish in 1883, it connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. It has a main span of 486.3 m. And the construction was the first wire-steel bridge. In the start it was originally mention to as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge and as the East River Bridge, but it was later dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge. In 1867 designated a letter about the East River and around the two cities, in New York City, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. The letter was re-opened by a committee of The East River. In 1915, the renamed to be called The Brooklyn Bridge.

Manhattan is a borough Of New York City on the island of Manhattan Island, which is 87.5 km2. In the district is about 1.6 million Inhabitants. The City was captured by English forces in 1664 and renamed New York City, until that the cities of Brooklyn, Queens, Richmond and Bronx were merged in 1898. After an uprising in 1774, the city was occupied by the British in 1976 during The American Revolution.
