The history of the Troubles in Northern Ireland goes further back than you actually think. When the first people immigrated to Ireland there was a big, deep forest dividing the northern part of Ireland from the rest. There were communities on both sides, but the forests made it difficult for them to trade and socialize with each other. At Northern Ireland it was so much easier to trade with the scotch. That started a relationship that was much stronger than the one with the rest of Ireland. So when the Irishmen remained Catholics, there were many from Northern Ireland who became protestant like the Scotch under the reformation. Many Scotch and Englishmen immigrated to Northern Ireland. They were called the early Planters, and they traveled Northern Ireland and settled down.
