My favorite sport is rowing. It is a very funny sport because there are big solidarity whit your team mates. You are training much and hard in the winter, and when the summer comes you are going to competitions’. There are seven competitions’ and one competition where you are trying how good you are.
There are four sizes of boats and on Faroese they are called: fimmmannafar, seksmannafar, áttamannafar and tíggjumannafar.
You are going to be very strong because in the Faroese you are rowing in wooden boats, like them the Vikings where rowing with, but they are a little lighter now.
There are a lot of rowing teams in the Faroe Islands. In the capital Torshavn there are three teams and they are: Argjaróðrafelag, Havnaróðrafelag and Róðrarfelag Knørrur. I am rowing whit Argjaróðrafelag and it lies in a village named Argir. The boats in Argjaróðrafelag are named: Æðan, Blikur, Teistin, Lómur, Argjabáturin and Hoyvíkingur. Hoyvíkingur came actually from the village Hoyvík, Argjaróðrafelag bought it in 2009 and they wouldn’t change the name.
I row whit the boat Teistin, we became number four last year, but this year we hope we will be number one. We where between the youngest last year but this year we are between the oldest. I started to row in 2008 when I was 12 years old but my team mates were two years older than me. I rowed against my brother who is two years older than me, we row whit the same team but not in the same boat. My brother’s boat won almost all the competitions. But one on their boat should on a vacation, so my brother asked me if I wouldn’t come to row whit them, and of course I said yes. And we won Ólavsøku, we won whit only 11/100 of a second, we won the championship, and that was a great day.
