Racism has been an issue in centuries not only in the US but in the entire world. But what is racism? There are many answers to that question, but here is a short answer. Racism is treating someone different based on their skin color, their ethnic community, their religion or nationality.
I believe that there is racism in the entire world not only in the Us and the Western. There will always be people that prefer only one skin color and one religion etc. so yes I believe there is racism in the Western, but I think Racism and ethnic discrimination in the United States has been a major issue since the colonial era and the slave era. Some people say that the racism ended in the 1960, in the revolution with Martin Luther King Jr. Others say that it ended the day Barack Hussein Obama became the president of USA. Then there are those who say that racism is not over yet, and that we have to fight to end the “modern racism”.
The reason for racism is that some people are afraid of people that aren’t like them or have the same skin color as they have. Or maybe they once have experience some uncomfortable with a group/person that were “different” and now they think that all people are like that. Another very common, and probably the most common cause of racism is unfamiliarity. People fear what they do not know or understand. If someone hasn't grown up around a certain race before, then there is more of a chance the person can be racist toward that particular group. ‘
