Racism: causes, history, and societal impact

I chose this topic because I thought it would be very interesting, and I wanted to learn more about it. Racism is when there’s hatred, discrimination or intolerance against another race. It is widely spread all over the world, but it’s most common in North America and Europe. Racism is in some cases caused by a fear of people, who are different, or simply because of an uncomfortable experience with people who have a different skin color than them self. There can be hatred towards different kind of races, blacks being a big example, because they have been targets for discrimination for a long time, especially in the 17 18 and 19th century. They were second rang citizens, and they often did slavery work for the dominant white people who ruled the country. The black were transported from Africa by ships, and when they arrived to their final destination in North America and Europe they lived a poor life filled with oppression and slavery. But in the 19th century a revolution began, in which Martin Luther King had a big role in. Gradually the blacks earned most of the basic human rights, but to this day they still live with oppression from native people. It can often lead to gun violence, which most of us have seen in the television or other media.
