The Baddest Dog in Harlem is written by Walter Dean Myers, and could easily be a real story in the ghetto ‘Harlem’.

I’ll start with a summary of the short story “The Baddest Dog in Harlem” The Narrator and his friends are hanging out on a rail by Big Joe’s place, talking about who the best fighter is. We are meeting Willie Murphy, Pedro, Tommy, Mr Lynch. Around the corner are two police cars coming, they ask the guys about they had seen anything. They report at somebody had a weapon in the area. A kid say he saw something up at the building, then the police walk behind their cars for security, and aim up at the building with their guns, and the guys go inside a restaurant called Eez-On-In to be safety. The narrator tells a girl called Mamie about the situation. One of the policemen shoot unfortunately a cartridge in to the restaurant and the other policemen’s react to this, and shoot up in a window at the building. After this someone report the police that they have seen some Arabic with the weapon.

A woman named Mary Brown came to the cops and complains about the shooting at her window, or more specifically her curtains, they must have been some new one. The cops want her to go with them up in her apartment, to check it. Mary Brown will only follow them if the narrator goes with her. Up in the apartment is there a lot of shooting holes in the wall and in the middle of the room, lay her dog dead and she start crying. She screams and says that she will sue them, but the cops are unserious and start to joke about the dead dog.
