I am going to analyze the essay “The baddest dog in Harlem” written by the famous American writer Walter Dean Myers. The text is a short essay showing trying to show us how though life can be for some people. In this analytic essay I am going to cover a lot of different subjects and at the end I will compare the text to a song by Bruce Springsteen.
We find the main character and his friends sitting outside Big Joes place, when the sound of sirens interrupts their discussion of who was the all-time greatest boxer. The police comes searching for an Arab man with an automatic weapon. One of the policemen slips and fires his gun at the restaurant. This makes all the policemen think that the shot came from the building on the other side and they start shooting at the apartments. Some time passes and the woman whose apartment has been shot into comes home. A policeman asks her to follow him up to the apartment along with the main character. The main Character has to go with the woman because she does not trust the police. They find no suspects only a dog who they thought was the Arab with the automatic weapon. The policemen notice that some of the bullets have gone through the walls and killed a young child watching cartoon.
