The text theme is cultural differnce between chinese and canadian cultur. Lins parents are from China, but they are move from China to Canada. She do not like to spend time with her parents and she keep all privat. Her parents are every decided and Lin don´t feel herself being welcome in the other culture. Lin fall in love in a boy named Todd. She do not come in a relationship with him because of her parents. Her parents are chinese origin and they want let there daughter being in a relationship with a white boy, there not are chinese origin. So you can say that Lin do not be allow to many things for example that Lin not may have a white boyfriend because he is a different culture. As we can sense in the text they have tradition in china that they not may break rules at all, which you see in the end of the text how the parents react when they see the white boy. Maybe it´s a little hard for Lin to understand her parents because she always have lived in Canada. We can hereby see that they have stronger rules in the chinese culture, relative to Canada.
