Skribentens beskrivelse af The smoking ban“Benefits of smoke ban will be felt at once” from The Observer written by Robin McKie. McKie uses a lot of scientific documentation which is really hard to argue against because it is based on facts. He claims that the population will feel the change immediately based on the different health facts in the article (p.2, l.1-2). “Is this the end of English literature?” from The Daily Telegraph written by A. N. Wilson. Wilson’s article is very different from McKie’s article in the way that Wilson uses no facts as documentation for why the smoking ban is bad, which it clearly is from Wilson’s point of view. Wilson starts off by summing up some of the greatest names of English literature who smoked while writing their works. He does admit that there were books in England before there was tobacco though, but claims that when the tobacco came the great story of British literature began as well(p.4, l.10-14). By saying this he makes a connection between smoking and being creative and asks the writers if this will be the end of English literature. He also argues that the ban would be a form of restricted liberty and make people stay home, when they cannot smoke at the pub anymore. |
