The bushfires in 2009 were the most extreme in Australians history. They fire caused over 170 peoples life, and over 400 people got injured. Australians prime minister called it mass murder.
Look like the nuclear holocaust
On Saturday 7th February 2009 at 4:30pm, a range of bushfires took place in Victoria. The firestorm was so powerful that the heat was equaled about 500 atomic bombs landing on Hiroshima. The winds were in excess of 120kph. With flames over 100 meters high and temperatures over 1400 degrees, you could imagine how strong and dangerous the bushfires were. The fires consumed everything and everybody in its path. Many people died in their homes and other of the victims burned to death in their car as panic.
A lot of animals lost their life too. Fires like this, there are not many animals that survive. About 1.000.000 of species animals lost their life in the flames. Imagine how horrible it will be, if you burned to death.
Through the years, Australia has been witness to many kinds of bushfires, and so they know how to tackle the fires. Many voluntaries gave a hand, and helped cleaning up all the mess, that the fire had leaved. Over 5000 brave firefighters tackled the bushfires, and a lot of voluntaries helped stopping the fire. Tons of water got dumped down on the fires from helicopters.
