We should have gone to the theater tour in New York, just like Albert and Mae. I would have preferred going on the tour, rather than being in the woods. The tour covered everything, where as when we were in the woods, we had to manage with only a few things. We didn’t even have proper food, not even milk or butter. Instead, we had to do with powdered milk and margarine. Some of the things we ate while we were there were fried cattail roots and blackberries. I told him how the cattails were probably protected, but he said no one cared about them anyways. He had collected the blackberries by himself, and carefully washed them. The blackberries were ripe, and so they tasted very delicious, although they were a bit messy to eat, it didn’t quite matter. My husband enjoyed going out camping, after all it was his idea. However I felt very uncomfortable being there, and I didn’t feel like I fit in at all. Throughout the whole trip, he was distant and it was like he didn’t pay attention to what I was saying. It was as if he was just there for his own pleasure, and he didn’t really care about me. He suggested swimming, but I was not in the mood to go swimming in the woods – he even told me how I look great in a bathing suit, and how he still remembers the green silk bathing suit he first saw me in. Though, instead of swimming, I would have liked to go to the movie in the village, it was a musical, and we could have gotten some milk as well, although he said that it was probably only open in the weekends. A thing that caught my eye while I watched him splitting the fire logs, was when the sun passed its zenith I saw a stripe of his shadow appearing. It was a silhouette as slim as a boy, and as tender as a memory – it really reminded me of the past, but that was just a memory now, one that I would never forget.
