The Girls In Their Summer Dresses is a short story in third-person. It´s go over a day or less. It’s a story of a young couple who are in conflict that the man always is looking at other girls, and their communication to each other.
The afternoon begins well. The wife, Frances, makes plans with her husband, Michael, how to spend the Sunday sunny afternoon on Fifth Avenue. The problems arise when Michael turns around to look at the first girl. Frances continues her planning of the day, she acts totally unaffected, but before long Michael has noticed another girl, now Frances strikes out at him, and the real problems begins. They continues in a bar, over a couple of drinks, Michael declares that he looks at women, but that he only does it of admire because he likes the look of them.
Characterization of the characters:
Michael: he is upset of women’s, he is always looking at them even if he is together with his wife. He is selfish because he is looking at the girls always. Maybe he is boring with his wife, he is inattentive on his wife. He is also unaware of the problem.
Frances: she is jealous on all the girls Michael are looking at, but I think she is in her right to be jealous. She is upset off Michael and that is induces her jealousies. She want to control Michael, and she is afraid of losing Michael.
