I checked the sky for signs of rain and set off early to make the most of the day. I had packed my bag with a few necessities – a bite to eat, a bottle of water and heaps of curiosity about what the city would bring. I had lived in New York City for many years, but it was but it was not until now I had thought about exploring. Suddenly I had time to do the things I wanted instead of using all my spare time on my job. I was excited since I had looked forward to do different things instead of my daily routine. As I walked out of my apartment’s huge oak door and walked from the path to the pavement where I was going to turn right, I already noticed a change. Instead of walking straight to my carport, I walked on the pavement. While walking, I noticed a huge weeping willow tree standing on a small hill. It swayed as if it was calmly waving at me. The sound of the fresh wind in its leaves made me feel energized and renewed so I ran with my bag on my back to the local park. Laughter, happiness and joy filled my ears and inspired me. This reminded me of when I was a kid and were playing on those lawns. I walked slowly. Suddenly everything became muted. I was alone and all I could feel was my breath and myself. My breath became steady. I walked among the trees of an avenue and came to a small clearing with a bench and a couple of trees. A brooklet was flowing and it broke my silence. I felt that this was the right spot to have peace for a short while. I sat down on the moist grass and took a salty cracker from my bag. As I took a bite, a little fluffy squirrel came by. It seemed like it was as curious as I was about itself. I threw a small piece of my cracker towards it and it immediately began munching on it. It came closer and closer and I could see its hunger and the curiosity in its eyes. I gave this little rodent the rest of my crackers and left the wonderful park. On my way home, I thought about my encounter with the squirrel. This animal is a part of the nature I enjoyed today, I could not be more thankful for this pleasant experience, and that I shared my food with it. This world is about balance, to give back and accept and by having the time to wonder about life, you will find the ability to share and care.
