This written assignment contains a small description of the writer, an analysis of the novel and last but not least a conclusion. I have explored the pros and cons of living in a big city like New York. Outside that I have put this novel and Walt Whitman’s poem “City of Orgies” in perspective.

This novel from 1997, written by Candace Bushnell, deals with the flighty, unstable and sometimes even isolated city life. Candace Bushnell is a successful author from Glastonbury, who has inspired women all over the world. Candace Bushnell attains to explore the love life in big cities in depth, and displays the truth of the love and the sex life as it is. The novel takes place in New York in the real world, and is told through the mind of a woman living in the city.

The title “Sex and the city” describe the story in a very accurate way. The characters live in New York, “the city”, and therefore there is a match between the title and the characters in the novel. The title creates some expectations, because you expect to read something that’s concerned with sex and how the everyday life of the characters is in the big city.
