“Happiness is positive cash flow” Carl Icahn The American Dream is a lifelong goal that many Americans strive for. Most parents dedicate their life to making sure their children will have it better than they did themselves. Having money, wealth, education, freedom, belonging, and love would be my family’s ideal dream. However, they probably put the most emphasis on money (tied to wealth & freedom, & derived from education), and love (tied to belonging). Of the two, money is probably the most important. This is why I chose the quote “Happiness is positive cash flow” – from Carl Icahn on Feb. 10, 1990 to represent my American Dream.
This quote was in a quote dictionary under the topic happiness. It was only one among many other quotes by notable people that had the main idea of money equals happiness. I chose this quote because I agree with the idea for more reasons than one. It symbolizes being successful in my eyes, having a lot of money (which means power, freedom, education, & belonging), and therefore being happy. Having a good job that brings me positive cash flow would probably make me happy and being happy is important to me. Having been contented as a kid because of enough money to buy me a lot of toys etc. probably played a large part in my feelings now. Currently I’m earning my own money and being able to buy things I want, & it reinforces my thought that having more money can make me happier.
