John Fitzgerald Kennedy, commonly known as Jack Kennedy, or by his initials JFK. He was born May the 9th 1917. He died November the 22nd 1963. During World War II John was a commander of Motor Torpedo Boats PT-109 and PT-59 during World War II in the South Pacific. Thereafter, he served in the U.S. Senate from 1953 until 1960.
Presidency
John F. Kennedy became the 35th president of America at noon on January 20, 1961. In his speech that noon he spoke the famous words:
"Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."
He asked the nations of the world to join together to fight what he called the "common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself".
JFK used the construction of the Berlin Wall as an example of the failures of communism: "Freedom has many difficulties, and democracy is not perfect. But we have never had to put a wall up to keep our people in, to prevent them from leaving us." The speech is known for its famous phrase "Ich bin ein Berliner" A million people were on the street for the speech.
Some notable events during his presidency includes: The Cuban Missile Crisis, Building of the Berlin Wall, The Space Race and Project Apollo.
