Analyse af Astrid Blodgetts 'Ice Break'

Canada is well known for their cold climate. The people living in Canada have started to take advantage of this, and have for example started ice-fishing, and ice-fishing is actually what sets the climax in our story, ice-fishing is a very common activity, and in the text it is the father’s way of connecting with his children.

The text begins in medias res, when the father and our main character, Dawn, drove into the lake with his farther and Janie. After that the writer gives us some information about the characters, and why they did go on the ice-fishing trip. The whole story is written in a flashback, where our main Character is looking back at the accident and what had happened until they fell into the lake. Our writer, describes the action from the inside of Dawn, as first person narrator with a close relation with the other characters, you might notice that for the first time on the first page when the mother tells Dawn to join his father “sometimes they do that, one parent one child. Every six months” (P.1.L.23) from this we can draw a line, from the parent’s relationship to their children. It is clear to see the purpose with the parent’s actions; they are trying to organize a stronger bond between them and their children. Their mother is not able to join in on the ice-fishing trip because she is working, and their fore tells Dawn to take her place, and he accepts her offer, even though he is afraid of being alone with his own father, which is caused by the awkward tension they experience when they are alone together.
