The English author William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy was once on a trip together it is stated in the Grasmere Journal that they departed right after dinner from Eusemere and had gotten to the woods beyond the Growbarrow park. There they saw a couple of daffodils by the waterside. They fancied together that the river might have brought the seeds over and made a small colony on the other side, but as they went along the waters more and more of the daffodils started to appear, when finally discovering a large belt of daffodils, the size of a road. It amazed them both as they both tell a tale of beautiful daffodils. William wrote a poem about the beautiful daffodils. About how they dance in the breeze and tossing their heads. The daffodils have of course no head and can’t dance as they are rooted to the ground. But he imagines them dancing amongst each other because they flutter when the wind get a hold of their crown leaves. He uses many beautiful phrases and expressions to describe how he experienced the vision of these flowers. He writes: I gazed and gazed, but little thought, what wealth the show to me had brought. That line is my personal favorite, as the tries to express how valuable the sight was because of its unspoiled beauty. On the other hand Dorothy, whilst also being impressed with the sight at hand, takes a more realistic and straightforward approach. This of course is because she writes a journal and he, a poem. A poem is, in many cases, a beautiful moment or object that the writer tries to give the audience, the readers a different perspective of by using different phrases and expressions to describe it, which I would say William accomplishes very well in his poem. A journal has somewhat the same goal, describing an experience as the person experienced it. But this time not so fleeting, more accurate and true to the way we observe the world. I think this journals audience is mainly the writer herself, as she will be able to look back and almost experience it again, like William does with his poem.
