The novel “The Absolutely true diary of a part time Indian” by Sherman Alexie is about an Indian boy named Junior (Arnold Spirit) who was born with water on his brain. He faces problems with racism, identity, friendship, poverty and family relationships.
Junior is a young Indian boy from Spokane and he was born with too much cerebral spinal fluid inside his skull. When he was six months old he had to undergo surgery, and luckily survive the surgery. He goes to a poor school at the reservation also called the “ rez” near Wellpinit. Junior comes from a poor alcoholism family. His father will often come home drunk. He’s one and only friend is Rowdy. The have known each other since they were born and have a close and unbreakable relationship. One day when Junior is suspended when, in a rage at realizing his geometry book is over thirty years old and belongs to his mother, he throws the book and hits his teacher Mr. P in the face.. Now he has to find a place where he can follow his dreams and find hope. Junior decides to transfer from his reservation school to Reardan, which is filled with rich white people. He tries to persuade Rowdy to move with him, but he gets furious. He feels that Junior is betrays him and moving a way from Rowdy’s life.
