“You see things. You keep quiet about them, and you understand. You’re a wallflower” – Quote Patrick
Patrick is a funny, caring, gay and fierce senior, he’s the kind of person who knows how to humor a crowd yet still be loyal to those who accept him. He is what you would call an outsider in high school, he likes, to be different. Patrick is called “Nothing” in school, he got the nickname when he was in middle school, because the kids used to tease him and call him “Patty” so he told the kids “Listen you either call me Patrick, or you call me nothing” and since then the name kind of just stuck.
We first meet Patrick in Woodshop class where he is known as “Nothing” Patrick meets Charlie officially at the baseball game, where we’re introduced to Sam, who is Patrick’s stepsister.
Charlie says that Patrick usually isn’t unhappy, but I’m not so sure. Is it possible that Patrick is just holding a lot inside? Being bullied is never easy and just letting it go is easier said than done
Patrick isn’t nothing to everyone. He caught the attention of the school quarterback, Brad. It turns out that Brad and Patrick are in a secret relationship. Brad wants to keep the relationship a secret because he doesn’t want everyone to know that he’s gay. In the start. Brad had to be stoned and drunk to make love to Patrick and he would deny it the day after. Brad then slowly started to accept the relationship, but still wanted to keep it a secret. Brad even “dated” the cheerleader Nancy to cover up the relationship. Charlie even asked if Patrick felt sad that he had to keep it a secret and Patrick just said he wasn’t sad because at least now, Brad doesn’t have to get drunk or stoned to make love.
