Analysis: 'Heroes' and 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'

The song “Heroes” is about a man who loves a woman. He wants to become a king for one day and then the woman should be the queen. This relates to the movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The movie is about a boy called Charlie who is in the beginning of his first High School year has no friends but then he meets some nice people and Charlie becomes a new group member in the “gang”. He goes to a party together with them where he takes some drugs. Afterwards Charlie, Sam and Patrick, who are members of the group, drive through a tunnel. In the radio the song “Heroes” plays, and none of them have ever heard the song before. Sam is in the back of the truck and spreads her arms out, so it looks like wings. Charlie feels like he is a hero because he has taken drugs and is still affected by the drugs. But he also finds out that he is starting to like the girl Sam, as we can see in line 8-9 in the song. They sing: “Cause we are lovers, and that is a fact. Yes we are lovers, and that is that”. He is also his own hero because he has defeated his shyness. In the tunnel he opens his eyes for a new world and that’s the reason why he is his own hero.
