Suddenly, we could see the last tourist boat sailing back to town – without us! I grabbed my mobile. No signal. I asked my sister what we were going to do, she is the oldest of us, so of course I thought she knew the answer, but she didn’t. All she could say was “I don’t know”. When I looked in her eyes all I saw was emptiness, maybe she was scared. The sun were about to disappear and when it was gone, we would be left in pitch-black darkness. There were no streetlights or light at all on the island at nighttime, because no one stayed at the island, at that time. The only thing we had to light up our path, was my phone, my sister forgot hers at home. Suddenly, my sister started crying. I didn’t expect this at all. She is soon turning 23 years old, how could she break down this easily? She had always been a bit emotional, but I certainly thought she was able to handle a situation like this. I comforted her by telling her everything would be okay. If we didn’t find a way to get off the island, we could simply wait for the first boat to arrive in the morning. When she stopped crying, I realized it was getting rather cold. Perhaps we should try to start a fire, I thought for myself. At some time, I had heard that you were able to start a fire, using a stick to create friction against a wood log. It seemed manageable, so why not try it. My sister and I walked around together, looking for the perfect stick and a log, until we found it. We found a fitting place to start the fire. I started sliding the stick against the log. Nothing happened. Possibly, I were not using the right technique. It was the first time trying this, so I knew it wouldn’t be easy. After 10 minutes, I felt exhausted. Now it was my sister’s turn to try it out. She only tried for a couple of minutes, before she also gave up trying. The temperature was dropping each minute now, and it was getting exceedingly cold. We had to something about it. My only idea, was to seek shelter inside the prison, but it was just as cold in there, as it was just a ruin. This time my sister came up with an idea. She remembered the island had a little souvenir stall. Of course, why didn’t I think of that before, it was obviously a good place to go. It had warmth and shelter! It was our key to survival during the night. When we got there we just had to work out how to open the lock. It didn’t look like it was especially strong of a lock. With a stone and a decent amount of force, I broke the lock and we got the door open. There were just enough room for each of us to be able to sit on the floor. It was cold inside. I quickly spotted the place where you turn on or off the heat, and then I proceeded to turn it on. Up until now, we had used my phone to provide light for us, and it had only 5 percent left. We were very lucky it didn’t run out while we were out there. Now we just had to wait here for the first boat on the morning.
