I grabbed my phone. No signal. Would we find anyone on the island to help? Would our phones start working? Would we be on Alcatraz until the first boat in the morning?
I anxiously shook my phone, in the hopes that I would receive a signal, nothing. We stood for a while, soaking our heads to come up with something. Luckily my sister was very smart so she suggested that we got somewhere elevated, and then maybe we would receive a signal. We turned around, facing the prison, to find the highest point. It was clear that the highest point was the tall watch tower. We quickly ran towards the tower, I reached it first so I grabbed the door handle, only to find that it was locked. We both sighed very loud. I leaned up against the door and slowly glided down until I hit the ground. But at the exact time I hit the crumbled stone floor, I remembered that on the tour we walked by a guard’s room, with a key bundle hanging off the wall. I explained my sister the idea, but she said interrupted me quickly; “Don’t you think the prison I lo-...” I was already way ahead of her and I had seen a window, on the third floor that was halfway open. My sister frowned upon my idea because she thought it was dangerous but had always seen myself as a good climber. So I got to work, my plan was to climb up the drainpipe, very simple, straight forward plan. All I needed was a horseshoe from my sister, she, reluctantly, folded her hands, so that I could step into them. I grabbed the drainpipe and pulled myself up, and climbed to the window. I stretched out my arm, grabbed hold of the window and pushed it open. I climbed in, I couldn’t recognize this part of the prison, from the tour earlier maybe this was the restricted area the tour guide was talking about. It felt weird walking through the halls filled with prison cells, all the stories in every single room, behind every bar. I saw a room with a sign on the door saying: restricted. The temptation took over, and I grabbed the door handle, it was open! The old rubber, which sealed the door, let go of its grip and I stepped in, and found the thing I feared most in the entire world, the electric chair. Just thinking about what had happened in here made me nauseous, I hurried out and slammed the door behind me. I walked down the stairs to the second floor, and I found the guard’s room and my eyes detected the keys on the back of the wall, I crawled under the Plexiglas plate, which didn’t go all the way to the floor, I snatched the keys and ran out, because of excitement. My sister was very happy to see me, and together we walked to the watchtower. The key bundle was big, so it took me a while to find the keys, but it worked out. We walked up the stairs inside the tower, and pulled out our phones; “Oh yes, three bars!!” my sister made a distress call, and a rescue boat came 20 minutes later and picked us up, they asked how we got up in the watchtower, we both laughed.
