The first settlers was Portuguese who was trying to find a easier way to Asia, but they was also interested in the land and to explore, so on they way down Africa, they occasionally stopped for fresh water and supplies, but also to go exploring. It was around the 14 century
In the 17 century the English had control over South Africa, they where there because slaves was a huge thing. The discovery of diamonds in these lands around 1900 resulted in an English invasion, which sparked the Boer War. Following independence from England, an uneasy power-sharing between the two groups held sway until the 1940's, when the white peps was able to gain a strong majority. And the law of apartheid came.
Black peps resistance
Throughout the 1950´s there were many campaigns and protests against apartheid and the apartheid laws. There was a groundswell of resistance as people responded in overwhelming numbers to call civil disobedience throughout the country.
Like in 1952 when the ANC launched the defiance campaign. This meant that large groups of Africans would peacefully but deliberately break the law. They aimed to get arrested, and flood the countries prisons. They hoped that this would draw a lot of public attention to the apartheid laws and force the government to abolish them. Mass rallies were held throughout the country and groups of people were sent to break the law. They walked trough “white only” entrances, sat inside white parks, and refused to carry their passes. This gained a lot of attention, so the ANC went from 7000 members to 100.000. But the government responded with extreme violence and people had to pay huge fines, if they broke the law.
