Analyse af Michael Richards' novelle 'Just like that'

As a child, you don’t really seem to have any worries. So why would anyone ever want to grow up? As an adult you could end up having a lot more worries. On top of that, adults have at lot more responsibilities, which could lead to depression. So what is the meaning of growing up? As you can read in this short story ‘‘just like that’’ from 1987, Michael Richards really accomplishes to create this great metaphor about shooting a kangaroo.

First of all, the story is written in 3. Person – But with focus on the boy’s feelings - Which gives the reader a more personal feel of the boy in the story. Mr Richards also chose to write the story were the narrator is omniscient. This means that he tells us about the boy's feelings and thoughts. Mr Richards also chose to make it a limited omniscient narrator, so we do not really know anything about the two persons in detail. We do not know anything about the feelings and thoughts of the man.

One example that illustrates this would be that in the book (page 25, line 10 in the end) it says “the boy”. Also on the same page in the first line, it says “the man” so the story would have to be written in third person.
