I have read the Shining mountain from by Alison fell. The text is a short story because of its length, small amount of characters and only one conflict. The text is also a fairy tale due to the fact that Pangma-La takes out her heart, lungs and heavy bones and gives it to the Sherpa women in a trade for light swan feathers so she easily could fly like a swan. Pangma-La is a totally normal girl that goes to school every day. Even though her father wanted her to be special and different and therefore named her after a great mountain because he wanted her to stand strong and tall as the mountain does. She never cries in front of her dad and that shows she has a lot of respect for him and is a bit afraid to disappoint him. She also doesn’t tell her father that she is tired so they can take a break instead she lets the Sherpa women carry her stuff. “My boots are too big and I can’t fill them”, in this example the boots are his dads’ expectations and they are way too big for her and she can’t for fill her dad’s expectations or as the story says the boots. In the start of the story the relationship is full of expectations and hopes from Pangma-La’s dad that she would follow her dads’ footsteps and also become at mountaineer. Pangma-La is also very afraid to open up for her dad she has a lot of respect for him. On the trip Pangma-La still tries to live up to the legend of her dad but after the Sherpa women ask a couple of times if Pangma-La needs help she breaks down and says yes for help to carry some of the weight I her backpack. But when they almost are at the top the Sherpa women ask for the last time if Pangma-La needs help to carry her heavy heart, lungs and bones and Pangma-La says yes and ends up becoming a swan. When her dad had reached the top and noticed that she had turned into a swan because of the pressure he finally forgets and let’s go of all the expectations go but it’s too late. The story fits perfectly to the theme “Growing up” since Pangma-Las’ dad wants her to grow up way faster than it’s natural, he wants her to be adult already but she is still only a child. Pangma-La and her dad’s relationship also grows a lot in the story they both end up much cleverer on each other than in the beginning
